HOW IT WORKS

A menstrual disc is a flexible, reusable device that fits snugly at the base of your cervix to collect menstrual fluid. Unlike tampons or pads, it doesn’t absorb fluid but captures it in its reservoir.

• The disc sits in the vaginal fornix (behind the pubic bone) and allows for worry-free, leak-resistant wear for up to 8 hours!

• It’s designed to move with your body, offering comfort during daily activities, exercise, and even intimate moments.

No, you shouldn’t feel the disc once it’s properly inserted. If you feel discomfort, it might not be positioned correctly. Adjust the placement by pushing it slightly farther back or ensuring it’s tucked securely behind the pubic bone.

Our menstrual disc holds up to 37-50 ml of menstrual fluid, which is approximately 7-9 regular tampons worth. It’s perfect for any kind of flow days.

While both are reusable, eco-friendly options, the key differences include:

  1. Shape & Placement: A menstrual cup (bell-shaped) sits lower in the vaginal canal, while a disc (flat and round) sits higher in the vaginal fornix.
  2. Comfortability: Menstrual cup can feel more noticeable if not positioned correctly, while for Menstrual Disc, it is less noticeable, as it adapts to your movements and stays tucked behind the pubic bone.
  3. Capacity: Menstrual discs typically hold more fluid than cups.
  4. Wear During Sex: Discs can stay in place during penetrative sex, while cups cannot.

Check our detailed comparison above for more differences.

OVI comes in two options that both fit most bodies. Pick based on your flow and how often you want to empty.

Light to Medium Flow – up to 35 ml
Choose this if your period is mostly light to medium, you are new to discs, or you prefer a lower-profile feel. Great for everyday wear, workouts, and overnight for many users.

Medium to Heavy Flow – up to 42 ml
Choose this if your first 1–2 days are heavy, you often use super or overnight products, or you want fewer bathroom trips on long shifts or while sleeping.

Not sure which to start with?
Start with Light to Medium. If you are emptying more often than you like on heavy days, switch to Medium to Heavy for the extra capacity.

For a personalised pick, tell us your day 1–2 flow and how often you usually change a tampon or pad, and we will recommend the best option for you.

FIRST TIME?

Inserting the disc might feel new at first, but here’s a simple step-by-step guide:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Squeeze the disc into an elongated shape, just like the shape of a tampon.
  3. Insert it into the vaginal canal at an angle (not straight up) and push it back until it sits just below your cervix.
  4. Tuck the front rim behind your pubic bone to secure it in place.

Tip: Relax your pelvic muscles to make insertion easier.
See our HOW IT WORKS page for more details

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Hook a finger under the front rim of the disc.
  3. Gently pull it out, keeping it upright to avoid spills.
  4. Empty the fluid into the toilet, rinse, and reinsert (or store it for cleaning).

Pro Tip: Removing the disc in the shower can reduce mess!

When properly inserted, the menstrual disc provides reliable, leak-resistant protection. However, leaks may occur if:

  1. It’s not positioned correctly.
  2. It’s full and needs to be emptied.

Adjust the placement or empty it more frequently on heavy flow days to avoid leaks.

Short Answer - No. A disc cannot get lost. Your vagina is a closed canal with your cervix at the end. The Ovi Disc sits just below the cervix in the vaginal fornix, like a little shelf. It cannot travel into your uterus.

If it feels “stuck,” try this:

  1. Wash your hands and relax your pelvic floor. A few deep belly breaths help.
  2. Squat in the shower or sit on the toilet.
  3. Bear down gently, like you are starting a bowel movement. This brings the disc lower.
  4. Hook a finger under the front rim and pinch to break the seal, then slide it out slowly.
  5. A drop of water-based lubricant can make removal easier.

When to get extra help:

If you cannot remove it after a few calm tries with breaks in between, or you feel pain, contact our support team or a healthcare provider. Remember to empty and rinse your disc at least every 8 hours.

CLEANING & CARE

During Cycle
After removing the disc:
1. Rinse it with cold water to prevent stains.
2. Wash it with mild, fragrance-free soap and warm water.
3. Rinse thoroughly before reinserting.

Between Cycles
At the end of your cycle, sanitise the disc by:

  1. Boiling it in water for 3-5 minutes. Making sure to stir the disc to avoid sticking.
  2. Letting it air dry completely before storing it in the provided case.

Note: Avoid harsh soaps, alcohol, or hydrogen peroxide, as they can damage the material.

Store your disc in the our OVI case provided after it is completely dry to keep it clean and dry. Avoid storing it in airtight containers or when it is not completely dry, as moisture can lead to bacterial growth.

COMPATIBILITY

Usually yes. Many people use a menstrual disc safely with an IUD. The OVI Disc rests securely in the vaginal fornix (tuck behind the cervix) and is held in place by its flexible rim. Unlike menstrual cups, it doesn’t rely on suction to stay in position, making it a comfortable and fuss-free option. That said, any internal product can interact with IUD strings during removal, so a little extra care helps. Please also make sure that your IUD strings are trimmed by your healthcare provider.

Note: Most physicians recommend waiting at least two menstrual cycles after your IUD is put in before using menstrual discs. That’s because an IUD is slightly more likely to move out of place during the first six weeks.

If you are unsure what is right for you, your healthcare provider can give advice based on your IUD type and string length.

Yes. Menstrual discs are safe to use regardless of sexual history. The vagina is elastic and the hymenal tissue usually has a natural opening, so a disc can be inserted and removed without harming your body. Some people simply find the first few insertions a bit tight or unfamiliar.

What to start with

  • Begin with the OVI Light to Medium Flow disc. It has a lower profile and suits most first-time users. If you find yourself emptying more often than you like on heavy days, you can move up to Medium to Heavy Flow for extra capacity.

Make insertion easier

  • Use a small amount of water-based lubricant on the rim.
  • Try insertion in the shower or while squatting or one foot on the toilet.
  • Fold the rim, insert toward your tailbone, then tuck the front edge behind the pubic bone.
  • Give yourself a few practice tries. Comfort improves quickly with familiarity.

Removal basics

  • Relax your pelvic floor, bear down gently, hook a finger under the front rim, pinch to release the seal, and slide it out level. It cannot get lost inside you.

Check with a clinician if

  • You have vaginismus, significant pain with insertion, or a history of pelvic surgery. A clinician can suggest techniques or confirm the best starting option for you.

Yes! The disc is designed to stay in place during intimate moments, making it a great option for mess-free period sex. You and your partner won’t feel it when it’s positioned correctly.
