A menstrual disc is a flexible period product designed to collect menstrual fluid rather than absorb it.

OVI Disc sits higher in the vaginal canal, beneath the cervix, with the front rim tucked securely behind the pubic bone. When positioned correctly, OVI Disc can provide comfortable, leak-resistant protection for up to 8 to 12 hours, depending on your flow.

OVI Disc is designed to move with your body during everyday activities, exercise, swimming, sleep, and intimate moments.

You generally should not feel OVI Disc once it is positioned correctly.

If you notice pressure, discomfort, or slipping, OVI Disc may need to be adjusted. Try pushing it slightly further back and make sure the front rim is tucked securely behind your pubic bone.

Remove OVI Disc and seek medical advice if you experience ongoing pain, burning, irritation, or unusual discomfort.

OVI Disc is available in two capacities:

  • Light to Medium Flow: up to 35 ml
  • Medium to Heavy Flow: up to 45 ml

How often you need to empty OVI Disc will depend on your individual flow. On heavier days, you may need to empty it more frequently.

Both are reusable period products that collect menstrual fluid, but they differ in shape, position, and how they stay in place.

Shape and placement
A menstrual cup is usually bell-shaped and sits lower in the vaginal canal. A menstrual disc is flatter and sits higher, beneath the cervix, with the front rim tucked behind the pubic bone.

How they stay in place
Menstrual cups generally rely on a seal against the vaginal walls. Menstrual discs do not rely on suction. Instead, OVI Disc is supported by the vaginal fornix and pubic bone.

Capacity
Menstrual discs often have a larger capacity than menstrual cups, although capacity varies between products and sizes.

Use during sex
OVI Disc may be worn during penetrative vaginal sex when positioned correctly. A menstrual cup must be removed first.

OVI Disc comes in two sizes designed to suit different flows, bodies, and preferences.

Light to Medium Flow, up to 35 ml
Choose this size if:

  • Your flow is generally light to medium
  • You are new to menstrual discs
  • You prefer a slightly smaller, lower-profile fit
  • You have a low to medium cervix

It is suitable for everyday wear, exercise, sleep, and lighter flow days.

Medium to Heavy Flow, up to 45 ml
Choose this size if:

  • Your first one or two days are usually heavy
  • You regularly use super or overnight period products
  • You want more capacity between changes
  • You have a medium to high cervix

Not sure where to start? Light to Medium Flow is a comfortable starting point for many first-time users.

If you find yourself emptying OVI Disc more often than you would like on heavier days, Medium to Heavy Flow may be a better match.

See our size chart here for a more visual comparison. For personalised help, contact support@ovidisc.com and tell us about your flow, cervix height if known, and how often you usually change a pad or tampon. Our team will be happy to help you choose.

Using a menstrual disc can feel unfamiliar at first, so take your time and allow yourself a few practice attempts.

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Pinch the sides of OVI Disc together to create a long, narrow shape.
  3. Make sure the removal notch is facing towards the vaginal opening.
  4. Insert OVI Disc at a downward and backward angle towards your tailbone, rather than pushing it straight upwards.
  5. Continue pushing OVI Disc back as far as it comfortably goes.
  6. Use your finger to tuck the front rim upwards and securely behind your pubic bone.

Relaxing your pelvic muscles and taking slow breaths can make insertion easier. A small amount of water-based lubricant applied to the rim may also help.

Visit our How It Works page for a complete illustrated guide.

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly.
  2. Sit on the toilet, squat, or stand in the shower.
  3. Relax your pelvic floor and gently bear down, as though beginning a bowel movement.
  4. Insert a finger and locate the removal notch at the front of OVI Disc.
  5. Gently hook the notch and slowly guide OVI Disc downwards and outwards.
  6. Keep OVI Disc as level as possible to help reduce spills.
  7. Empty the menstrual fluid into the toilet, rinse OVI Disc, and reinsert it if needed.

Removing OVI Disc in the shower can make your first few attempts feel easier and less messy. See our How It Works page for more information.

When inserted correctly, OVI Disc is designed to provide reliable, leak-resistant protection.

Leaks may happen if:

  • OVI Disc has not fully opened
  • The front rim is not tucked behind the pubic bone
  • The cervix is not positioned inside OVI Disc
  • OVI Disc has reached capacity
  • The size or firmness is not the right fit for your body

If you experience leaking, remove and reinsert OVI Disc. Make sure it is pushed fully back and securely tucked behind the pubic bone.

On heavy-flow days, you may need to empty OVI Disc more frequently.

No. OVI Disc cannot travel beyond the vaginal canal or enter the uterus.

If OVI Disc feels difficult to reach, it may simply be sitting higher than expected. Take a break, relax your body, and try again when you feel calm.

To make removal easier:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Sit on the toilet or squat in the shower.
  3. Take a few slow, deep breaths.
  4. Gently bear down to help move OVI Disc lower.
  5. Hook the removal notch and slowly guide OVI Disc out.

It is completely normal for removal to take a little longer while you are learning.

If you cannot remove OVI Disc after several calm attempts, or you experience pain, contact a healthcare professional for assistance.

During your cycle

After removing OVI Disc:

  1. Rinse it with cool water first, which may help reduce staining.
  2. Wash it thoroughly with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
  3. Rinse away all soap residue before reinserting it.

Avoid scented soaps, antibacterial washes, dishwashing liquid, oils, harsh cleaning products, alcohol, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide.

Before first use and between cycles

Sterilise OVI Disc by:

  1. Placing OVI Disc inside a clean metal whisk. This helps keep it away from the bottom of the pot and reduces the risk of scorching.
  2. Placing the whisk and OVI Disc into a pot of boiling water.
  3. Making sure OVI Disc remains fully submerged.
  4. Boiling OVI Disc for 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Carefully removing it and allowing it to dry completely.

Always monitor the pot and water level while boiling. Do not leave it unattended.

Allow OVI Disc to dry completely before storing it.

Store OVI Disc inside the breathable silicone case provided, or leave it in a clean, dry, well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight.

Never store OVI Disc while it is damp or inside an airtight container. Trapped moisture can encourage unwanted bacterial or mould growth.

Keep OVI Disc away from excessive heat, direct sunlight, dust, and sharp objects.

Many people use menstrual discs while they have an IUD because menstrual discs do not rely on suction to stay in place.

However, any internally worn period product may come into contact with IUD strings during removal, so taking a little extra care is important.

Before using OVI Disc:

  • Ask your healthcare provider whether OVI Disc is suitable for you
  • Follow their advice about how long to wait after your IUD is inserted
  • Check that your IUD is correctly positioned
  • Ask your healthcare provider whether you should monitor your string length

When removing OVI Disc, gently bear down, locate the removal notch, and guide OVI Disc out slowly. Avoid pulling directly on the IUD strings.

Stop using OVI Disc and contact your healthcare provider if you notice new pelvic pain, unusual bleeding, a change in string length, or if you can feel the hard part of the IUD.

Yes. OVI Disc may be worn during penetrative vaginal sex when it is positioned correctly.

Because OVI Disc sits higher in the vaginal canal, it may help reduce menstrual mess during intimacy. Some users or their partners may still notice the rim, and experiences can vary between bodies and positions.

OVI Disc is not a contraceptive and does not protect against pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections.

Remove OVI Disc if you experience pain or discomfort.

OVI Disc is made from 100% medical-grade silicone and is free from latex, BPA, and phthalates.

The silicone used for OVI Disc has undergone biocompatibility testing for cytotoxicity and skin sensitisation.

However, no product can guarantee that every person will be free from irritation or sensitivity.

Stop using OVI Disc and seek medical advice if you experience burning, itching, swelling, pain, or persistent irritation.
